Colin Kaepernick deserves all the Male Crush Mondays!
I’m not a huge football fan, but I was first introduced to this man with his Beats by Dre commercial in 2014. I loved the song from hearing in previously so it caught my attention but once I saw that man on screen, I had to watch.
He’s fine. Let’s just put that out there now.
But recently, if you’ve had any type of social media or news exposure, you know he’s in headlines for a different reason.
In August of last year, Colin Kaepernick sat down during the national anthem during the NFL preseason. The first two games, since he wasn’t dressed, no one really paid attention. That third time changed the game.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick said, via NFL.com. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
He received so much criticism about being disrespectful to those who served the country it was ridiculous. He even switched his silent protest from sitting to kneeling in an effort to not seem “disrespectful” and they were still upset.
Besides his confession of not participating as a voter in the presidential election, Colin has done everything he can to back up his display. He’s started a foundation, donated tons of money (his pledge of 1 million isn’t too far off in his reach) and started a Know Your Right Camp. This is free campaign for youth fully funded by Colin Kaepernick to raise awareness on higher education, self empowerment, and instruction to properly interact with law enforcement in various scenarios.
According to his site, kaepernick7.com, they teach 10 points.
