2018 goals be like…

Yes. I know that my title is not proper grammar, but I am so excited (nervous, scared and all) about my goals for this year. This year, it’s time to remove try from my vocabulary and just do it!

As this blog goes into its second year. YAY! I want to be intentional about what Write to Recover stands for. Yes, it’s great to reflect on tragedy in order to process it, but at some point we have to actually RECOVER.

I don’t want to keep blaming my past failures, mistakes, and bad decisions on why I am not meeting my goals. I also want to be intentional about which goals need to be my main priority.

My word for 2018 is PRIORITIZE.

Here are three tips on how to start this year as amazing as possible.

Forget 2017 problems

I know. That’s not always easy. Especially if you have to deal with those problems now. I understand things don’t just go away all the time, but if you take some of your energy out of it, it will get better. Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles, it takes away today’s peace. If that problem is still there, worrying about it won’t change anything. Just figure it out. If you can’t figure it out, find someone who can help you figure it out…which brings me to tip number two…

Clean up your circle

I listened to a sermon Bishop TD Jakes did and he said, “If someone in your boat isn’t going your direction then they have to get off.” Having people around you who aren’t going your way will cause a storm. We learned that with Jonah’s biblical story. The passengers in the boat figured out that he was the problem…and he had to go. If you have people around you who are always negative, do not encourage you to stick to your goals or are content with no progression…they have to go!

Reward yourself

I always set small goals on the road to my bigger ones and give myself small rewards when I meet them. This doesn’t have to be anything luxurious. One of my goals is to finish 12 books this year so once I finish one, I may binge watch a few episodes of my favorite TV show. My weight goal is to lose 60 pounds this year, so I may buy a new workout shirt every 5 pounds or so (nothing expensive) or do a fun workout to celebrate. Make reaching your goals fun otherwise what’s the point? No one has to be miserable. Yes, sometimes its a sacrifice but you may need a little more motivation than the end goal.

What are some of your goals for 2018? What do you plan to do to make sure you stick to them? Comment below so we can chat about it.

Happy recovering!

My goals? To get over myself, stop researching and planning and actually write and put myself out there. I have a plan with small goals and will step into it slowly with small milestones. Thanks for sharing.

” Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles, it takes away today’s peace. ” – Great point!

I also loved your goal of reading 12 books! That’s also my goal to read one per month!
